NIJ - NIJ Standard

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard is the primary ballistic resistance standard in the United States and the Americas. NIJ Standard 0108.01 defines protection levels from IIIA through IV, establishing clear benchmarks for what threats each level must defeat through rigorous testing protocols.

The NIJ standard is the most widely recognized ballistic certification in the Americas. Each protection level specifies exact ammunition types, velocities, and test conditions:

NIJ Level IIIA: Defeats 9mm FMJ at 1,400 fps and .44 Magnum at 1,400 fps. This level protects against virtually all common handgun threats and is the standard for executive protection vehicles.

NIJ Level III: Defeats 7.62mm NATO FMJ (M80) at 2,780 fps. This level stops most common rifle rounds including AK-47 ammunition, requiring steel or composite armor panels.

NIJ Level IV: Defeats .30 caliber armor-piercing (M2 AP) at 2,880 fps. The highest NIJ rating requires ceramic or specialized composite materials.

Testing requires multiple shots in specified patterns, with materials failing if any penetration occurs. Our armoring consistently meets or exceeds these requirements, with sample testing from each production lot.
