VPAM - VPAM Standard

Association of Test Institutes for Attack-Resistant Materials and Constructions

VPAM (Vereinigung der Prüfstellen für angriffshemmende Materialien und Konstruktionen) is the leading European testing association for ballistic resistance. The VPAM BRV 2009 standard provides more granular protection levels than NIJ, allowing precise specification of protection capabilities.

VPAM testing represents the gold standard for European ballistic certification. The organization brings together testing laboratories from Germany, Switzerland, and other European nations to ensure consistent, rigorous testing.

VPAM Levels Explained:

  • VR1-VR3: Handgun protection against smaller calibers

  • VR4: 9mm FMJ protection (comparable to NIJ IIIA entry)

  • VR6: Enhanced handgun protection including .44 Magnum

  • VR7: Rifle protection against 7.62x51mm NATO

  • VR9: High-velocity rifle protection

  • VR10: Armor-piercing rifle protection (comparable to NIJ IV)

VPAM testing is particularly rigorous regarding:

  • Temperature conditioning of test samples

  • Shot placement requirements

  • Multi-hit capability verification

  • Backface deformation limits

Our European-specification vehicles are tested and certified to VPAM standards through accredited laboratories.
